Short on time, Irving writes “I wish you all possible prosperity and happiness.”

Author best known for his story “Rip Van Winkle.” ALS, one page, 6.5 x 5, September 29, 1831. In full: “My Dear Mr. Bates, I have no time to write you any other lines than these farewell ones, in which I wish you all possible prosperity and happiness. Your friend, Washington Irving.” Accompanied by a book engraving of the author. In fine condition, with scattered areas of light toning, tiny area of discoloration in lower right corner. R&R COA.
