General Washington discharges a Revolutionary soldier

DS, signed “G. Washington,” one page, 7.5 x 12.75, June 10, 1783. Washington signs a discharge for Sgt. William Kemp. Document reads, “By His Excellency George Washington, Esq., General and Commander in Chief of the Forces of the United States of America. These are to certify that the Bearer hereof William Kemp, Seargeant…having faithfully served the United States five years… being enlisted for the War only, is hereby discharged from the American Army.” Also signed by Washington’s aide-de-camp Jonathan Trumbull Jr, and his adjutant Henry Marble. In good condition, with a fold through “G. W” resulting in some paper/ink loss to the otherwise dark signature, numerous folds whose breaks have been repaired on the reverse with paper strips, scattered small areas of paper loss, some small holes, and overall toning and soiling.
