Description

Clara Barton sends her regrets, “I find a pencilled note of yours on my desk and…I must acknowledge it to you and say how sorry I am that I missed your visit.”

Founder of the American Red Cross. TLS, one page, 8.25 x 11, wonderful lightly-lined American National Red Cross letterhead, June 17, 1890. Barton regrets that she was unable to see Mrs. Norcross, in part: “I find a pencilled note of yours on my desk and…I must acknowledge it to you and say how sorry I am that I missed your visit; my solace is the hope that we meet in Boston.” Surface scuffing just above the signature where the closure was erased and retyped, and some fold edge separations, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
