Hoosier Poet known for his dialect poems celebrating the simple life. ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7.75, personal letterhead, March 30, 1897. Letter to a lady interested in obtaining permission to publish some of his poems. In part, “Your good request for permission to use in another volume the eleven poems you name, selected from volumes already printed and copyrighted, I fear I cannot answer you as you wish and I may like to. All I can do is refer you to the publishers of my book…I cannot encourage favouring results.” Double matted with a portrait of Riley, to an overall size of 13.75 x 11.5. In fine condition. R&R COA.
