Vintage Pittsburgh Hotel Ledger signed by two presidents, among others

Ornate early 20th century velvet covered ledger displays a large stitched pink and gold coat of arms mounted to front cover. The thick unlined ledger, 9.5” x 12.5” dating from 1917 - 27, featuring 46 pages from what appears to be a dining room ledger from a hotel no longer in existence. Various guests for breakfast, luncheon, tea, dinner, members of various Parties, Clubs, etc. are listed. Guests include newspaper editor and publisher Arthur H. Vandenberg who later was both a member of the US Senate and a Republican presidential candidate as well as automobile manufacturer Ransom Olds. On Dec 5, 1917, a group of “Fort Sheridan Comrades” are listed including Captain C. E. Burknoh, who adds, “one who served with Phil Sheridan in the days of the Civil War”; also Lieutenant Hatter S. Palmer, “U.S.R.,” 17 officers total; also former President William H. Taft on “Washington, April 2, 1919”; and a list of “Sons of the American Revolution, Kent Chapter.” On Feb 12, 1921, are future President Herbert Hoover; his wife Lou Henry Hoover; also a gathering of the “Daughters of the American Revolution” signed on Apr 28, 1917; plus several members celebrating a 10th Anniversary from Fort Sheridan, Co. 10; etc. Expected wear; general toning, occasional moderate toning; light ink transfer; occasional damp-stains, especially first page, otherwise very good condition. Dozens of other signers may provide some notable “sleepers” when researched. R&R COA.
