From Lionel Hampton’s autobiography, Hamp, “… salute to me, not only for my long career in music, but also for my role as developer for the Lionel Hampton Houses. Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman were honorary chairmen, and Teddy Wilson, Gene Krupa, and Cab Calloway were honorary cochairmen. The members of the quartet didn't realize it at the time, but that was the last reunion …"Hampton was known as “The King of the Vibes” and Calloway was a jazz singer and bandleader noted for his scat singing. Lot of two great candid vintage glossy full-length photos, each 4.75 x 7. The Hampton photo is an early one, sepia, and depicts him standing on the sidewalk, wearing a suit, hat and overcoat, and is signed in blue ink; Calloway’s photo depicts him approaching or in middle age, wearing a light suit, standing in front of a door, and is signed in fountain pen. In overall very good condition, with scattered light creasing and surface impressions to both from adhesive residue on the reverse, corner creases and edge toning to the Hampton photo. R&R COA.
