Description

Willie The Uncommon Thrush with eight pages signed by Rockwell

In 1966, Rockwell wrote a story outline about a little bird with a special talent. Rockwell's wife Molly, a retired English teacher, rewrote the text and greatly expanded it. "Willie, the Uncommon Thrush, a Picture Story" was published in an abridged version credited to Norman Rockwell in McCall's magazine in 1967 with Rockwell's original color illustrations. This piece is a custom-made folio binder, 11.5 x 15, gilt-stamped “Willie The Uncommon Thrush, Norman Rockwell” on the navy cover, and containing eight mounted pages from the McCall’s appearance of the story, illustrated in color, each signed “Norman Rockwell” in black felt tip. This may be a one-of-a-kind piece. The first page of the folio describes the item as a personal tribute to Rockwell. The second page is a photo of Rockwell at his table, signed “Norman Rockwell” in black ink. Each page is secured in acid-free mylar. In fine condition, with very mild scuffing to a couple of areas of the binding. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
