DS, three pages, 8.5 x 11, October 7, 1942. Elizabeth Taylor’s first legal contract, signed at the tender age of ten years old. First three pages of the agreement concern her voice and screen test at MGM. “I agree that during the period commencing on the date…I will report to you at such times and places as you may designate for the purpose of enabling you to make such screen and/or voice tests of me as you may deem necessary to determine whether or not you desire to avail yourselves of my services.” Document is nicely signed on the second page in blue ink, “Elizabeth Taylor” and signed on the third page by her parents, Sarah and Francis Taylor. Also included with the agreement is an eight page “Exhibit A” agreement, dated October 7, 1942, on Loew’s Incorporated letterhead. Document is an exclusive employment contract for the ten year old Taylor, with a starting salary of $75.00 per week for not less than ten weeks, with Loew’s being allowed to use Taylor’s name and likeness, and also agreeing to provide “educational and welfare facilities” during that time. Second to last page of agreement deals with possible extensions of employment for periods of several months up to additional 7 years with Taylor’s salary rising to an impressive $750.00 per week at the final extension. Exhibit is signed on the last page in blue ink “Elizabeth Taylor,” who also initials a small paper clipped rider to one of the pages. Document remains stapled in its original legal folder. In fine condition, with staples and punch holes to top edges, expected folds and some scattered wear to folder. Impressive piece of Hollywood history as Taylor begins her legendary career.
