ALS signed “S. L. Clemens,” one page, 4 x 5, June 13. Letter addressed to Miss Fanny Clemons in Madison, Wisconsin. In full, “I hold myself a loser, in that I am not able to establish the relationship, but the truth is, I am very weak on genealogy & know nothing of a positive nature about my blood back of my grandfather.” Accompanied by the original black bordered mailing envelope, addressed in Clemens’ hand and postmarked 1900. Interesting to note that Clemen’s writes over Fanny’s last name, as he originally used the spelling for his last name. One can reasonably assume that this woman wrote to Clemens thinking she perhaps might be a relation to the author.
