On October 4, 2004, SpaceShipOne – piloted by Brian Binnie – exceeded an altitude of 328,000 feet for the second time in a span of fourteen days to claim the ten million dollar Ansari X-Prize. Binnie’s flight also broke a forty-one year old world record by climbing to 69.9 miles above the earth’s surface.
