Description

American army officer and explorer who was killed in the assault against Canada in 1813. Colorado’s famous Pike’s Peak was named in his honor. LS signed “Zeb. Pike, Captain Commanding,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.75 x 3.75, April 25, 1798. In part: “I certify that David Pritillo [?] has been Employed on the Quarter Master Department …Timbers…building from the tenth until the twenty-fourth of April 1798 inclusive and that he has not received any compensation for said services other than an extra half ration of…entitle to the allowance usually given officers taken from the line…” Signed by Pike, who adds “Captain Commanding” and another officer. In very good condition, with separation along the fold through the first three letters of the signature, scattered toning, a couple of small separations at folds.
