Vice President Van Buren introduces a clergyman on a European trip, “He is one of our most distinguished divines & I take a strong interest in his welfare. You will convey a particular favor upon me by making him acquainted with such persons in London as he may desire to know.”

ALS signed “M. Van Buren,” one page both sides, 8 x 9.5, November 21, 1835. Letter to A. Vail concerning a visiting clergyman. In part, “The Rev. Mr. Sprague of Albany visits Europe for health & vacation. He is one of our most distinguished divines & I take a strong interest in his welfare. You will convey a particular favor upon me by making him acquainted with such persons in London as he may desire to know.” In fine condition, with expected folds, a light shade of toning and minor show through from text on reverse.
