In part: “I never saw the article you mentioned but what appeared in print was certainly untrue. Caroline and I have frankly never discussed a coming out party as it has always seemed so far in the future. It makes me feel badly to think that her reaction to parties could reflect on the attitude of other children. It is not something either of us would ever want and I hope it will never be the case. I really do not think it is possible for me to issue a statement as to Caroline’s thoughts concerning a coming out party. I take great pains to maintain privacy in her life and to draw attention to a party would only contradict all my endeavors. I do assure you that I shall never speak out against coming out parties and I am glad you brought the situation to my attention as I honestly had not given much thought to the matter.” In fine condition, with scattered creasing, a paper clip impression to the left edge and some faint edge toning.
