Eccentric king of Bavaria,1864-86, whose extravagant arts patronage and penchant for exquisite palaces (one of which, the Neuschwanstein, was the model for Cinderella’s castle at Disneyland), nearly drained the royal treasury before he finally succumbed to insanity.
