A cordial invitation to tea from notorious German spy Mata Hari

Pseudonym of Margaretha Gertrude Zelle, a Dutch-born dancer, courtesan and spy. The mistress of many French officials, she began to spy for Germany before and during WWI. In 1917 she was arrested by the French and executed by firing squad for espionage. ALS in French, one page, 6.75 x 8.25, no date. Letter to a Mr. Fuchs. In full, “I was out yesterday when you came and I request that you name the day when you can come have a cup of tea. Tomorrow if you want.” Nicely matted and framed with a profile portrait of Mata Hari and a small name plaque, to an overall size of 16.5 x 26. In fine condition, with a bisecting horizontal mailing fold and some light toning along right edge. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Oversized.
