“Major General Maxwell D. Taylor presented the Medal of Freedom to Miss Marlene Dietrich.”

TLS, one page, 7 x 9, United States Army letterhead, November 26, 1947. Letter to Senator Arthur Capper. In part, “Many thanks for forwarding Mr. Benjamin E. Neal’s poem, ‘Thy Face Was In The Shining Sun’…I am informed that Major General Maxwell D. Taylor presented the Medal of Freedom to Miss Marlene Dietrich…For this reason and believing you would want to forward the poem to Miss Dietrich, I am returning the copy Mr. Neal inscribed for her.” Accompanied by the inscribed poem and the original mailing envelope. Also included is a 1947 TLS from Senator Arthur Capper to Dietrich, informing her he is sending the poem to Eisenhower with the hopes she may read it over the air when presented with the Medal of Freedom. In fine condition, with light toning, expected folds, a few stray pencil marks and a paperclip impression to top edge. R&R COA.Connie
