“Let us have faith that right makes might; and in the faith, let us, to the end, dare to do on duty.”

Colfax was a close friend and ally of President Abraham Lincoln and was at the White House on the evening of April 14, 1865 when President Lincoln left for Ford's Theater. He was invited by the president to accompany him to the theater but as he was not a theater enthusiast, he graciously declined Lot of two items. ALS, one lined page, 5 x 5.25, dated November 27, 1880. In part, “Home for Sunday as usual from lecturing…I have no Sinclair autographs I would be willing to share.” An AQS, 5 x 2.75 lined slip, signed “Schuyler Coulfax, South Bend, Ind. Nov 1880.” Coulfax pens a quote from a Sinclair Cooper speech. In full, “Let us have faith that right makes might; and in the faith, let us, to the end, dare to do on duty.” In fine condition. R&R COA.
