Description

Louis Pasteur recommends an academic chemist

French scientist and bacteriologist whose studies on fermentation led to the conclusion that it was caused by bacteria, proving the germ theory of disease; he also developed a successful vaccine for rabies, which hitherto had been universally fatal. ALS in French, signed “L. Pasteur,” one page both sides, 5.5 x 8.25, May 24, 1884. Letter to a colleague. In part, “Without changing anything at the title of the chair of Wurtz, I advise Mr. Michoud to be a candidate for the chair of Organic Chemistry of Mr. Wurtz; once nominated, he could give part of his lectures in general chemistry, the rest in biological chemistry…with more specialized lectures in organic chemistry. This combination, as the one I had the honor of proposing to you, would serve equally with interests of the people involved.” In fine condition, with light mailing folds and a mild shade of toning. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
