Signature of heavyweight champion, John L. Sullivan

Boxer known as the Boston Strong Boy. Fighting on turf, and with bare knuckles, Sullivan became the heavyweight champion of the world under the London Prize Ring rules by defeating Paddy Ryan on February 7, 1882. Ten years later, on September 7, 1892, he lost the championship to James J. Corbett under the new Queensberry rules. Fountain pen signature, “With compliments of John L. Sullivan,” on an off-white 5.25 x 2.5 slip of Dante’s Inferno Exhibition Company stationery, dated January 25, 1900 and affixed to a 5.75 x 2.25 red card. In fine condition, with some scattered blocks of toning and some minor soiling to right side. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
