Signature of Sam Houston

Attracted to the struggle for Texan independence, he led the Texan army at the battle of San Jacinto and became the first president of the Republic of Texas. After the admission of Texas as a state, he became a senator. He was the governor of Texas, but was deposed when he refused to swear allegiance to the Confederate States of America. Nice ink signature, “Thy cousin and friend, Sam Houston,” on an off-white 4 x 1.25 slip clipped from a letter and affixed to a 6 x 2 off-white slip. In fine condition, with two letters of signature affected by ink show through from reverse. R&R COA.
