President Fillmore nominates a United States Treasurer

DS as president, one page, 15 x 11, January 23, 1851. President Fillmore nominates John Sloane to the position of Treasurer of the United States, signed at the bottom in black ink by Fillmore and countersigned by his Secretary of State Daniel Webster. Sloane was elected to congress from Ohio, and served by successive elections 1819 to 1829. He was clerk of the court of common pleas for seven years, secretary of state of Ohio three years, and was appointed treasurer of the United States, November 1850 to April, 1853. Matted and framed with a portrait of Fillmore, to an overall size of 29.5 x 17. In fine condition, with expected folds, some light wrinkling, mild water staining to left edge, worn but intact seal and bold signature. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA. Oversized.
