Document signed by Congressman David Crocket and twenty other members of the Twentieth Congress

Frontiersman, politician and folk hero, he become famous for his shrewd and humorous speeches; he was killed at the Alamo. DS, signed 'David Crockett, Ten,' as well as by twenty other members of the Twentieth Congress of the United States, one page, 7.5 x 9.5, dated February 23, 1829. A request for an appointment for a gentleman. In full, 'We would respectfully recommend W. Tho. A. Scott of this city [Washington], as a suitable person to fill the office of Clerk in any of the Departments. He has we believe a cerebral education, a fine character and has but few resources, other than those own exertion to depend upon. We should be highly gratified to see him placed in some one of the Departments where we believe his merit will be apparent to the confidence of those with whom he may be associated.' Signed underneath in black ink by Crockett, as well as by fellow congressmen Gabriel Moore, G. W. Owen, J. S. Barbour, William Stanberg, John H. Marable, John G. Stower, Henry Daniel, John C. Clark, Robert McHatton, Nathanial Clairborne, Joseph LeCompte, Chittendon Lyon, Elisha Phelps, Thomas Chitton, Thomas Hinds, Samuel Carson and three others. Nicely double matted and framed with a large color portrait of Crockett at the battle of the Alamo, two small photos of the Alamo and a couple of stone chips taken from the Alamo, to an overall size of 24.25 x 30. A short handwritten letter accompanies the piece concerning how the Alamo chips were acquired 'The stone chips were on the ground. I don't want you to think I would defile the Alamo...They say I could have been thrown in jail. There were a lot of Texas Rangers on guard throughout the grounds.' In fine condition, with some light show through from writing on reverse, a few stray ink marks and a few areas of light toning. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
