Description

John Quincy Adams writes to his sister in law

ALS signed 'J. Q. Adams,' one page, 8 x 9.75, December 13, 1832. Letter to his sister in law Ann Adams. In full, 'The enclosed letter I take it for granted is from your son Joseph. It came under cover to me; and the seal upon the cover being directly over that upon the letter, that in taking off the cover the seal of the letter was accidentally torn away. I have not ventured however to open it, and know nothing of its contents. I hope they will inform you of his health and contentment with his situation. The letter for him from you which I brought with me I enclosed to Commodore Morris, a Commissioner of the Navy Board, requesting him to forward it, which he has done. My dear wife has for the last fortnight been confined nearly all the time to her chamber, and for no small part of it to her bed, with a fever attack of the Eringpelas. She is now convalescent but quite infirm. I hope you have enjoyed good health and with affectionate regard to Elizabeth remain, your friend and brother.' In very good condition, with expected folds, some minor paper loss to edges, mounting remnants to reverse, a couple blocks of toning to bottom portion and some light staining to right edge. A fine letter. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
