Hemingway sends self-effacing gratitude to Leonard Lyons of the New York Post, in part: 'Thanks very much for the piece. I did not deserve it and will try not to make it necessary for you to try to beat it.' He adds a handwritten, initialed postscript: '577 very useful weapon.
