TLS signed 'Ira,' one page, 8.5 x 11, August 16, 1954, written to producer Max Liebman. In part: 'Too bad mistress can't be used in 'Lady In The Dark' - nor, for that matter, any one of the fifty or so synonyms in Roget and in the Berry and Van den Bark slang compilation. I attach a perfumed version of the Ringmaster's quatrains which I think you will find quite workable. Let me know what you think. (By the way, do you have Danny Kaye's record of part of the circus scene? It was a Columbia issue many years ago - lots of gusto, as I recall. Ira.' Accompanied by original type-written lyrics to 'Lady In the Dark' - Circus Dream. In part: 'The mister can't master the missy in view /Though this is the miss he'd make Mrs./ He has missed out on Mrs. - for the Missy is through / What a mess of a mishmash this is!' In fine condition, with scattered light creasing, small staple at upper left. RRAuction COA.
