Benedict Arnold

Revolutionary War general and traitor who schemed to betray West Point to the British. DS, signed 'B. Arnold,' one page, 8 x 13, dated August 16, 1786 . Legal document concerning Arnold. In full, 'In the case wherein Jesse Lawrence, as Plaintiff and Benedict Arnold, Esquire, Defendant in the Supreme Court, and in July term A.D. 1786 referred to Richard Seaman chosen by the Plaintiff and William Berry chosen by the Defendant, and Fitch-Rogers appointed by the court and said Rogers being now absent and the parties' decision of having the case pending between them speedily determined I do by their consent and at their request appoint James Hoyt, Esquire in the room of said Rogers.' Accompanied by a nice steel engraving depicting the treason of Arnold. In fine condition, with some scattered light toning, expected folds and a clear bold signature.
