ALS, one page, 8 x 10, December 5, 1851. Letter to Isaac McKinley concerning his run for the 1852 presidential nomination. In part, 'Although I have declined a dozen times to interfere with appointments in the House, on account of my present 'ticklish position' yet I will recommend Mr. Adams...he deserves a place and Col. Jack ought to give it to him...Col. Bigler is, I think, strongly inclined for Hughes, He thinks, as he has determined to appoint Campbell who is my friend, it would conciliate the Cass men to appoint Hughes. I told him the appoint meant of Campbell was a party necessity.' In fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
