Description

Baseball signed by House Of David teammates Grover Cleveland Alexander and John Tucker

Baseball Hall of Famers, Tucker set an unofficial record for put-outs at first base for one game; 23. Official Buster Brown baseball signed in fountain pen on the sweet spot, 'G. C. Alexander,' and 'John R. Tucker,' on a side panel. In 1931, Alexander was persuaded by promoter Ray Doan to join the House of David Baseball Team. His role was defined as manager, pitcher, and box office drawing card. The only player not required to grow a beard, he was given an additional 35 cents a day for razor money, which was used primarily to purchase alcohol. His drinking problem kept Alexander from being the leader that Doan wanted him to be. Portions of Tucker's signature light, but legible, ink notation to another side panel, scattered toning and soiling to ball and a few surface scuffs, otherwise very good condition. COA Mike Gutierrez/Global and RRAuction COA.
