Description

Excertps from Hitler’s letters to Winifred Wagner

Typed excerpts from letters from Adolf Hitler to Wagner on both sides of an 8.5 x 12 sheet of her personal letterhead. Winifred Wagner was one of the most important women in Hitler's life with persistent rumors about their possible marriage. Hitler's letters were written to his 'most dear and honored Wini,' from 'Wolf,' which was Hitler's pet name. One letter reads, in part, 'For the last two years Xmas has depressed me, and I can't bring myself to be the way I used to be. I'm sure the time will come when I'll be able to prove to you my grateful devotion not with words but with deeds...Today I understand why Wagner and his destiny had so much more to say to me in my youth than so many other Germans. It is undoubtedly the same distressing eternal struggle against hate, envy and non reason.' Signed on the reverse in fountain pen, 'For the authenticity of the copies, Winifred Wagner.' She signs again at the bottom under a testimonial, in English, attesting to her relationship with Hitler, and that her relationship 'depended on the personal esteem and friendship and were chiefly founded on his veneration for the genius Richard Wagner.' In very good condition, with light toning, several pencil notations and scattered edge wear. RRAuction COA.
