Wilbur Shaw

Race car driver and President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway who was killed in a plane crash in 1954. TLS signed 'Wilbur,' one page, 8.5 x 11, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation letterhead, September 1, 1948. A letter to Ray Johnson assuring him of a 'good spot' at the race despite the resignation of Chief Steward Jack Mehan. In part: 'Please don't worry at all about your membership in the Loge group or any other spot you would like. We will look forward to seeing your cheerful countenance near the center of the activity whether you're waving flags or not.' Accompanied by Mehan's original signed letter to Johnson, a copy of a letter from Johnson to Shaw, and a 10 x 8 unsigned promotional photo of Shaw. In fine condition, with light horizontal fold through the signature. RRAuction COA.
