Description

“The job at Columbus cost us very much more than we had ever expected it to cost...I do not question the estimate of Mr. Smith, but when we build our next park, we will not have Mr. Dann.”

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, St. Louis National Baseball Club letterhead, January 7, 1933. Rickey expresses his concern about the cost of construction of Red Bird Stadium. In part, 'The job at Columbus cost us very much more than we had ever expected it to cost...I do not question the estimate of Mr. Smith, but when we build our next park, we will not have Mr. Dann....it is my opinion that Dann did not have a single solitary point to stand on in his claims for additional compensation. He now regards Fred Ankeman as unfair, to the point of dishonesty. That controversy should have been enough for us to have not considered Dann in the building of the Rochester park or the Columbus park.' In fine condition, with a light shade of toning and a pencil notation to top right. COA Mike Gutierrez/Global and RRAuction COA.
