ALS signed 'O. W. Holmes,' one page both sides, 5 x 8, February 6, 1875. Letter concerning the death of a Mr. Hawthorne. In part, 'He went to Philadelphia, I know, with Mr. Field's former partner, Mr. William B. Tichner. Mr. Tichner died at Philadelphia. I think Mr. Hawthorne did not live way after him. I saw him in Boston, very feeble, just as he was setting out on a journey with his old friend and college classmate, Ex-President Franklin Pierce.' In fine condition, with light toning and mounting remnants to second integral page. RRAuction COA.
