Description

Isaac Hull

Naval hero from the War of 1812, who commanded the Constitution in its battle with the Guerriere. ALS signed 'I. Hull,' one page both sides, 8 x 9.5, January 12, 1814. Hull details his view of a fire occurring within his sight. In part, 'I am at this moment from the top of the house where I have been to see a rope walk burn which is now in flames. I fear our friend How will suffer much...There cannot be a doubt but it has been set on fire by some of the rope makers of this town...A report has been in circulation...that a man had said there would be a fire tonight.' Integral second page bears an envelope panel addressed in Hull's hand. In fine condition, with light toning and mailing folds. RRAuction COA.
