Description

News photographer and photojournalist whose images of murder, mayhem and other dramatic events appeared regularly in the New York press during the thirties and forties. Although stories differ as to how he came to use the name "Weegee," the most colorful is based upon his claiming with varying degrees of seriousness that his "psychic powers" enabled him to be first at the scene of crimes, fires, accidents and the like. ALS, four pages, 5 x 8, no date. Letter to a friend in New York. In part, 'Finally got the script from CBS for the show - its wonderful and I don't see how it can miss...Am now on the way to 20th century Fox to see about using Kaleidoscope for a big production of Cole Porter's Can Can. I also need pictures, caricatures for a production on Beatnicks, the lost generation, musicians, with beards, etc. lost to the world.' He adds a short postscript, signed 'W.,' asking his friend to take care of the rent. In fine condition, with a few light creases. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Weegee's hand. RRAuction COA.
