ALS signed “RN,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 5, 1993. Letter to old friend and car dealer Bob Nesen, in full: "As we road [sic] around the Santa Barbara area in one of your Cadillacs, Tricia, Julie and I remarked about how fortunate we have been to have known you as a friend and a loyal supporter over the years. I just want you to know that we do not take your generosity for granted. The next time I am out in that area I will stop by your office to express my appreciation presently to you & your fine staff." In fine condition, with a thin strip of old tape residue along the top edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
An influential ally of the Republican party, Nesen was appointed as Assistant Secretary of the Navy by President Nixon in 1972, and in 1981 was nominated by Reagan to serve as United States Ambassador to both Australia and the Republic of Nauru. This letter dates to just six weeks after the death of Pat Nixon, and eight months before the former president succumbed to a severe stroke at the age of 81.
