Description

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, September 10, 1952. Letter to noted Austin lawyer Creekmore Fath, in full: "I certainly did appreciate your good letter of the sixth. I am of the opinion that 'Shivercrats' are in the minority in Texas. I also appreciate what you have to say about the oil tax situation, particularly as it affects the depletion allowance." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Shivercrats were a conservative faction of the Texas Democratic Party in the 1950s named for Texas Gov. Allan Shivers. The term was first used in 1952 after Shivers backed Republican Dwight Eisenhower for president over Democrat Adlai Stevenson.
