Forbush as a "First Lieutenant in the Fifth Regiment of Cavalry in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by Grant and countersigned by Secretary of War William W. Belknap. Upper portion retains the original War Department seal. Matted and framed to an overall size of 19.5 x 23.25. In fine condition, with light overall rippling, and slight fading to the signature.
