Two DSs, one signed “Dan Rowan” and Dick Martin,” the other signed “Dan” and “Dick,” both one page, 8.5 x 11, Rowan and Martin letterhead, November 3, 1970, and January 20, 1971. Interesting pair of official letters from Rowan and Martin to their producer George Schlatter, addressing ideas and rewrites for scripts pertaining to Rowan and Martin shows #14 and #24. The earlier letter, with the “Debbie Reynolds” subject line, reads, in part: “We have reworked the golf monologue which Jim Mulligan has,” “We hope that you can come up with another news item to replace Lucille Ball’s ratings bit on page 68,” “We are beginning to get objections and can see some validity to Edith Ann’s characterization. We both think she’s a very funny character but it’s beginning to look like she is mentally retarded,” and “The cocktail party joke on page 86 for Dan we would like changed. The joke about the President worked previously when we did it for Lyndon Johnson but I don’t want to do a divine guidance and President Nixon joke on it.” The second letter, in part: “Page 30 - The clapboard bit is your basic dog hump joke and should be acceptable to everyone,” “Page 129 - We think it’s funny and are sorry they object to it. Is the objection to puberty or shaving?,” and “Page 177 - We understand that the directive from last year prohibits explicit pot jokes which this is.” In overall fine condition, with file holes to the left edges.
