AQS on an off-white 6.5 x 7.5 sheet, signed at the conclusion, "Gradually thawing out, your old-time spring and summer friend, James Whitcomb Riley," and dated March 1889. Riley pens a stanza from his poem 'Old Man's Nursery Rhyme,' in full: "In the jolly winters / Of the dead-and-gone / Bub was warm as summer, / With his red mitts on— / Just in his little waist- / And-pants all together— / Who ever heard him growl / About cold weather?" In fine condition, with faint toning over the left side of the page.
