ALS, one page both sides, 4.25 x 3.5, Somerset Club, Boston letterhead, September 16, 1889. Letter to “Mrs. DeForest,” likely the wife of artist and family friend Lockwood de Forest. In part: “I should dearly like to come if the state of your father’s health permits. I shall be in New York from the 18th to the 25th, when I sail for England…I had the pleasure of seeing your husband—just before he went on holiday and was very sorry that I had so elaborately mismanaged things—But it was all my father’s fault for not writing in advance.” In fine condition, with a crease to the upper left corner.
