Tremendously popular actress (1892–1939) who successfully made the transition from silent films to talkies, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress two years before her death from cancer. Vintage matte-finish 9.25 x 12.25 Clarence Sinclair Bull portrait of Brady in an elegant gown and seated with her dog, signed and inscribed in green fountain pen “For Edwin Wilhelm, best wishes, Alice Brady.” In very good condition, with creasing to the corners, scattered surface marks and impressions, some silvering to dark areas of the image, and light chipping to the edges. It is an intriguing portrait—Brady appears expressionless, staring off-camera, and is confined to a lower quarter of the photo, hardly dominating her environment as is typical in Hollywood portraits. Given her early demise, Brady’s signature is scarce, especially in signed photos. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
