British naval officer and explorer (1868–1912) best known for the two expeditions he led to the Antarctic in 1901–1904 and 1910–1913. During the second of these, the Terra Nova Expedition, extreme weather, poor health, and a shortage of supplies led to the death of Scott and his party. Scarce and choice ink signature, “R. F. Scott 5.5.10,” on an off-white 3.5 x 2.5 card. In fine condition, with a small mounting remnant on reverse. Just a month after signing, Scott would depart Cardiff, Wales on the Terra Nova, determined to be the first to reach the South Pole, but dying on the return journey, along with his entire expedition.
