Description

Baseball Hall of Famer (1919–1972) who broke the sport’s color barrier. In 1947, Robinson became the first African American Major League ballplayer of the modern era, and in recognition of his accomplishments both on and off the field, every Major League Baseball team has retired his number 42. Rare and incredible vintage glossy 7.75 x 10 half-length portrait of young Robinson in his Dodgers uniform, nicely signed in blue ballpoint, “Best Wishes, Jackie Robinson.” The photo is date-stamped on the reverse, “MAY 21 1950.” In very good condition, with lightly trimmed borders, scattered creasing, moderate overall wrinkling, a spot of emulsion irregularity on his left cheek, and a rectangular area of light emulsion scuffing surrounding his head (visible only at an angle). The signature is very bold and displays perfectly against the light background. Very scarce in signed photos of this size and quality, this remarkable pose is brimming with strong will and determination! Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
