Johnson appoints an IRS assessor

Partly-printed DS as president, 19.5 x 14.25, December 21, 1866. President Johnson appoints P. P. Carpenter an “Assessor of Internal Revenue Twelfth District of New York.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Johnson, and countersigned by Secretary of the Treasury Hugh McCulloch. In very good condition, with tape reinforcement to reverse along bisecting vertical fold, several other storage folds, scattered light toning and foxing, and some handwritten portions of document light, but legible. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
