Eminent Viennese composer (1825–1899), aka the “Waltz King,” best known for such all-time favorites as “The Beautiful Blue Danube” and the “Emperor Waltz” and for the operetta staple, “Die Fledermaus” Musical manuscript done in a scribal hand, 16 bars of music in two systems from his operetta “Simplicius,” signed at the bottom, “Johann Strauss,” on a 9.5 x 6 off-white musically-lined sheet. Work is labeled at the top, “Das Rufs Duet.” The operetta received its premiere at the Theater an der Wien on 17 December 1887 and was nearly marred by a false fire alert in the theatre. This operetta, however, is largely forgotten today, although its music is still performed at length. Uniform toning, a crease to lower left corner, and a neatly trimmed top edge, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
