President Grant pardons Charles Jones, sentenced to eight years for counterfeiting, stating “that confinement is having so injurious an effect upon him that his health will be irretrievably injured by longer imprisonment - And whereas it further appears that his character has been good previous to the commission of the offense.” Signed on the reverse by Grant and countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish.
