Description

American railroad executive (1813-1888) and the son of a founding father of the United States, Gouverneur Morris. Manuscript DS, one page, 8 x 13, May 11, 1858. Document regarding a transferal of mortgage, in part: "I do hereby certify that a certain Mortgage…made and executed by John H. Graham of the United States Navy and Cornelia his wife to me and recorded in the office of the register of the City & County of New York…is paid." Signed neatly at the conclusion by Gouverneur Morris, and countersigned below by Peter DeWitt. In very good to fine condition, with staining, and splitting to the ends of the folds, none affecting the signature.
