Extradition from France for "the crimes of Forgery and Embezzlement"

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, both sides, 10.5 x 15.5, April 9, 1875. President Grant authorizes James M. Leary to take “Charles Claremont charged with the crimes of Forgery and Embezzlement…a fugitive from the justice of the United States, in France…and hold him in your custody and conduct him from such place of delivery in France, by the most direct and convenient means of transportation, to and into the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by President Grant and countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. The seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. In very good condition, with tape repairs and light toning along intersecting folds and hinge. An unusual and uncommon format for Grant. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
