Description

Exceptionally rare fully signed Hoffman photo

Sensational vintage glossy 7 x 9 original group photo of the Beatles by photojournalist Dezo Hoffman, showing the Fab Four in their early mod-style collarless suits, signed in black ballpoint, "Paul McCartney" and "Ringo Starr," in blue ballpoint, "John Lennon," and in black ink, "George Harrison." In very good condition, with scattered overall creasing trimmed edges, and tape remnants to top and bottom edges of reverse. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, in part: "These signatures date from early 1964, right around the time when The Beatles first came to American to play on the Ed Sullivan show. Beatles signed collarless suit photos are extremely rare and desirable." Eager to distance the band from their leather-clad past, manager Brain Epstein commissioned Beatles tailor Dougie Millings to create a more refined and modish style for his young Beatles upstarts. Topped with their trademark collarless jackets, the resulting slim-fitting suits were first worn by the Beatles on stage and for television appearances in early 1963. By the time the Beatles played the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, and their subsequent first concert on American soil at the Washington Coliseum two days later, the Fab Four and their clean-cut image had sparked an international phenomenon soon to be deemed the British Invasion. Fully autographed Hoffman photos showing the band in their collarless suits remain tremendously sought after by collectors, especially signed directly on the iconic image. Pre-certified REAL.
