ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10, The Mill letterhead, no date. Letter to Mr. Goodbreck, in full: “Many thanks for your fine letter and I am pleased that you and your family enjoy my painting.” Within the body of the letter Wyeth has added a wonderful small sketch of two old buildings, structures redolent of his 1958 work The Mill. Matted and framed. In very good condition, with mottled moderate overall toning, and light stains from old tape on the reverse.
In 1958, Andrew and Betsy Wyeth purchased and restored ‘The Mill,’ a small cluster of 18th-century buildings north of Chadds Ford and the Brandywine Creek in rural southeastern Pennsylvania. For nearly half a century the Wyeth family lived at the renovated Brinton’s Mill, an historic grist mill with granary and stone dwelling, which served as limitless well of inspiration for the revered visual artist. Wyeth captured his hometown landscape in numerous beautiful works, including 1979’s Night Sleeper and the adored 1963 portfolio set Four Seasons. An aesthetically pleasing ‘Mill’ letter with the exceedingly scarce presence of an original Wyeth sketch. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
